When Sinners Say “I Do” (Genesis 3)

Total depravity is a really fun way to talk about marriage! In my second sermon in a series on marriage, I decided to explore how our sinfulness intersects with married life. I had a vision for this sermon when I first planned it, but I’m not sure I hit the mark. The truth is, I can think of some directions I could have gone with it that may have been a little bit better. I’m sure the depth of our sin could be explored in many more sermons, but I doubt people want to listen to more of those in a sermon series about marriage.

[Note: I want to acknowledge a couple of sources that I gleaned some helpful insights from for this sermon. First, a paper entitled “Biblical Theology for Counseling” by Dr. Richard Averbeck (a Professor at TEDS). Second, the book When Sinners Say “I Do” by Dave Harvey. I couldn’t resist stealing his title for the sermon because it’s so good!]
