“The Unexpected God of Justice”

Sometimes we cry out for justice, and that can be a good thing…assuming that our hearts are submitting to God and we’re longing for Him to set things right for His glory. However, sometimes we can talk ourselves into believing that God has somehow been unfair to us, and that He’s therefore unjust. We perceive injustice where there is none. That’s what was going on in Malachi’s day. God’s people were not right with the Lord, they were not seeking Him or honoring Him. Yet they looked around at the difficulties they were experiencing (as a result of the curses of the Mosaic Covenant that they rightfully deserved), and they asked, “Where is the God of justice?” They demanded justice, when they should have asked for mercy and to be purified. That’s the crux of my sermon from Malachi 2:17-3:6 this past Sunday.
