“Glory Through Suffering”

Nobody likes suffering. Even Jesus Himself prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane that the cup might pass from Him. But in the end, He submitted to the suffering that was before Him and was ultimately raised in glory! My sermon on 2 Timothy 2:8-13 keys in on God’s ability to turn suffering into glory. Thanks be to God!

“Taking Hold of the Inheritance” (Joshua 15-19)

This sermon was extremely challenging for me to write. Granted, I haven’t written that many sermons at this point in my life…but trying to preach five chapters is difficult! And add to that the fact that Joshua 15-19 is mostly lists of the allotments the tribes of Israel received in the Promised Land, and it’s tough to know where to start! But I definitely trust that 2 Timothy 3:16-17 is true and I think it’s important to preach the sections of the Bible that we tend to “skim” or even skip in our own Scripture reading. Expository preaching sometimes forces us to meditate on passages of Scripture that we wouldn’t otherwise (and that’s a good thing!).

There are lots of other things I wanted to include in this sermon, but due to some time constraints in our service this past Sunday I had to edit out some material I had written. But hopefully it’s an encouraging word from a part of the Bible that may not seem to apply to us at first glance.
