“Risky Business” (Philippians 2:19-30)

Some passages are “classic” preaching texts. Everyone just knows that certain sections of the Bible will preach. And then there are other passages that seem to stump me. There are times when I spend way too many hours just figuring out how to “find a sermon”, let alone feel like I have enough time to prepare a message. There are certain parts of the Bible that really would be “easier” to skip. Sometimes I think, “If only I could get into the next chapter!” But we’re reminded in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 all Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching…

My most recent sermon was on a text that seemed so ordinary, so mundane. Philippians 2:19-30 is mostly about the travels of Paul, Timothy, and Epaphroditus and the upcoming itinerary that Paul hopes to keep. So, it took me a while to figure out how I was going to preach the passage. But, as always, through prayer and study God was faithful to help me in my preparation. By His grace I pray that our people were blessed and challenged by the message.
