Sunday, January 31st marked the end of one era, and the beginning of another. Pastor John Powell retired and handed over the flock he has shepherded for 36 years to my pastoral oversight. This was a wonderful day, and an emotional day. Paul Schliep, Director of Pastoral Care for the EFCA West, came to share a brief message for the occasion. He did an outstanding job addressing me, Pastor John, and the congregation in some encouraging and challenging words regarding this transition. What I remember most was the “weight” of the calling when our leaders laid hands on me in prayer to commission me for this new phase of ministry. It was a good weight, a weight of blessing. May God strengthen me for what lies ahead!
